Shinju Necklace

Shinju Necklace

I would like to adorn the necks of all the women of the world with pearls."
--Kokichi Mikimoto

Two-day class
Level: Intermediate
with proficiency in Peyote and Ndebele stitches.

Shinju Necklace (Japanese for ‘pearl’) was inspired by a wondrous trip to Japan. The esthetics, culture and beauty of Japan are remarkable. This necklace is a humble tribute made in Japanese seed beads. It incorporates tubular peyote to make three stiff and hollow structural beaded balls (pearls). The pearls are suspended by a strap of sculpturally curled ndebele, which then transitions into a spiraling section of netting and back into ndebele.
